What is the future simple?
There are 3 main ways to talk about actions in the future in English:
- will
- going to
- present continuous with a future time reference
will:
- to talk about actions in the future without a plan.
Positive: subject + will + verb
Example: I‘ll get my coat.
Negative: subject + will + not + verb
Example: I will not get my coat.
Example: I won’t get my coat.
Question: will + subject + verb
Example: Will you get your coat?
be going to:
- To talk about planned actions in the future.
Positive: subject + be + going to + verb
Example: I‘m going to go to Turkey.
Negative: subject + be + not + going to + verb
Example: I‘m not going to go to Turkey.
Question: be + subject + verb + ing
Example: Are you going to go to Turkey?
present continuous:
- Used with a time reference for planned actions in the future.
Positive: subject + be + verb + ing
Example: I‘m playing football on Saturday.
Negative: subject + be + not + verb + ing
Example: I‘m not playing football on Saturday.
Question: be + subject + verb + ing
Example: Are you playing football on Saturday?
